This spoof movie trailer for "Daylight Saving" is ~9 years old, but still a classic and well worth the watch if you need a chuckle. It also sums up my personal opinion on the matter, which is, how the heck is this still a thing? For most of us living in the U.S. this is still a thing because of the Standard Time Act introduced in 1918 as a measure to save on fuel costs during the First World War by adding an extra hour of sunlight to the day. You read that right: 1918, as in 19-freaking-18!!! Adjusting the clocks twice a year can have various health consequences, mostly in the spring, due to losing an hour of sleep. Although changing of the clocks doesn't necessarily cause mental health conditions, some evidence suggests it may exacerbate them. Here are ways to take precautionary measures to care for your mental health. 👉 Practice Good Sleep Hygiene: practices that can influence sleep for better or worse, such as refraining from consuming alcohol before bed 👉 Establish a Consistent Sleep Routine: Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, including the weekends 👉 Gradually Alter Your Bedtime: Two to three days before the transition this weekend, sleep experts recommend waking up 15-20 minutes earlier than usual 👉 Spend Time Outdoors: Since natural light is a driving force behind our circadian rhythms, exposure to sunlight can alleviate feelings of tiredness during the day that often accompany time changes 👉 Nap in Moderation: naps should never exceed 20 minutes in length, otherwise you may wake up feeling groggy 👉 Don't Consume Caffeine Too Close to Bedtime: caffeine consumed within six hours of bedtime can disrupt your sleep cycle #TheMoreYouKnow #MentalHealthAndWellBeing #DaylightSavingTime https://lnkd.in/ggKDwaEh
